What time can car-riders/walkers/bike-riders arrive on campus?
· Students may begin arriving on campus at 845 AM. However, students who arrive on campus between 8:45 and 9:00 AM are required to report to the middle courtyard and remain there for supervision until the 9:07 AM bell.
· 6th grade reports to the patio area on the side of the student affairs.
· 7th grade reports to the center courtyard.
· 8th grade reports to the farthest courtyard closest to the 100 building.
· Students are not to use sidewalks around the inside perimeter of the building. They are to remain open.
· No locker use before 9:07 AM.
· At 9:07 AM students will be dismissed to go to breakfast or their lockers and report directly to homeroom.
Where do bus riders go between 8:45 AM and 9:07 AM?
· Students have two options. First, they may go to the cafeteria for breakfast. Second, they stay in the courtyard area until the 9:07 bell.
· At 9:07 AM students may go to their lockers and report directly to homeroom.
Is there a before-school care fee-based program?
The district will allow Eisenhower Middle School to have a before-school fee-based program provided the enrollment averages at least 15 students per day. If this before-school care enrollment drops below 15 students, the program will be cancelled.
· There is a $10 one-time registration fee.
· The before-school fee-based program will begin at 7:30 AM Monday through Friday.
· The weekly charge for this service is $10.00. This charge is for all students.
· An application is available in guidance.
· Parents are required to walk their students to the before care room and sign-in their child on a daily basis.

How late can parents pick up children after school?
All afternoon car riders need to be picked up in front of the school by 4:15 PM (or until the pick-up line clears). Students who are left on the “car ramp” after the pick-up line clears, will be taken to the Main Office to contact their parents. Parents will be required to sign their students out in the Main Office. Students who have a pattern of being picked up late will need to register for the after-school care program.
Where can parents drop-off their children in the morning?
§ The AM drop-off point is at the front of the school. Parents should use the entrance directly in front of the brick Eisenhower sign. Students may only be dropped-off between the posted signs in the front of the school.
§ Parents must form a single line of cars. Students must exit the car from the passenger side ONLY.
Where can parents pick up their children in the afternoon?
The PM pick-up point is at the front of the school. Parents should use the entrance directly in front of the brick Eisenhower sign when entering school grounds. Students may only be picked-up between the posted signs in the front of Eisenhower Middle.
Parents must form a single line of cars. Students must enter the car from the passenger side ONLY.
Once a parent has picked-up the student, the parent will be able to drive around stopped vehicles. Please drive slowly and use extreme caution while driving in this area.
Students that will be picked up from school in the afternoon MUST use the car line. The lot located between Eisenhower and East Bay is not a pick up lot, nor is the parking lot in front of the school or on the side of the school closest to the Bus Garage. Please do not drop off or attempt to pick up your children on Big Bend Road or the Access Road.
There is no visitor parking between 3:45 – 4:15 PM. Due to the large volume of pick-up traffic at dismissal time, parents will be unable to access visitor parking spaces located on the Eisenhower campus.
If a parent desires to park his car and wait for their child in front of the school, the parent must park in the East Bay faculty lot and walk to the pick up point. Parents must follow the sidewalks around Eisenhower bus loop. Parents and students may not cross through the lot due to safety concerns with the bus dismissal.
What if I need to pick up my student early during the last period?
Due to the traffic congestion and the high volume of activity in the guidance office during the last 15 minutes before dismissal, parents need to pick up their child no later than 3:45 PM.
§ In the event of an emergency from 3:45-4:05, please contact the school so that we may have your child waiting in the guidance office for dismissal.
Where can parents park when they visit the school?
· There are four visitor spots and handicapped parking located on the driveway in front of the school.
· If the visitor spaces are full, parents may park in the grassy area next to the bus garage.
· Do not park in the bus loop located between Eisenhower MS and East Bay HS. This is a faculty only and bus loop lot.
How does a parent get an emergency transportation change to a student?
Plans regarding students' pick-up after-school must be made at home in advance, as these messages interrupt the students’ instruction and learning.
In order to ensure that students receive their messages, all emergency transportation change telephone calls need to be made to the Main Office no later than 3:45 PM.
How do parents make arrangements for their children to ride a different bus home just for the day?
Bus transportation changes (just for the day) should be used for childcare emergency purposes only it CANNOT be used for changes due to sporting event practices/games, birthday parties, appointments, “sleep-overs”, etc.
Bus transportation changes (just for the day) If a student needs to ride a different bus home with another student, the parents/guardians of both students are required to send in (via the students) parental permission notes with contact phone numbers for verification.
Bus notes should be turned in to the secretary in the Assistant Principal’s office no later than 24 hours in advance.
Once the note has been approved, a bus transportation pass will be issued for that day ONLY.
How will I know if my child’s bus is late leaving Eisenhower Middle?
We encourage all students to use their cell phones to notify their parents of late buses.
If a student does not have access to a cell phone, the student should request from an administrator on bus duty to use one of the phones located close to the bus ramp.
Who do parents contact for bus transportation information?
If you have any questions, please contact the district’s area Transportation Coordinator, Mrs. Katvala at 744-8632.
Student Materials and Supplies
What can parents and students do to support Eisenhower Middle School’s reading program?
At Eisenhower Middle School we are striving to create a climate that is steeped in reading. Students should always carry some type of “free-reading” material to school everyday. Our goal is utilize “any spare moments” by having students engaged in the reading process.
What are the book-bag guidelines?
· For safety reasons, students must fold up their book-bags and store them in their lockers before homeroom period and bags remain in the lockers until students depart for home. This procedure makes the school safer for two reasons: 1) It eliminates students and teachers tripping over book-bags in the classrooms and 2) It minimizes the number of inappropriate items brought into the school and classroom.
· Since book-bags must be folded and stored in the lockers, it is best to use book-bags that do not have frames, or lots of extra padding. The easier it is to fold up the book-bag, the less likely that a student will experience a “locker jam”.
Book bags on rollers are not allowed on campus, as they are considered a safety hazard in the halls and do not fit inside the lockers.
Do students need planners?
· It is the expectation of the school that all students will use some type of planner system. The student planner is an important academic tool at the middle school level, as it serves as a communication tool between home and school.
· The Eisenhower planner is FREE to all students. However, if the student loses their planner the replacement cost is $5.00. Replacement planners may be purchased through the guidance office.
What materials do students need?
Teachers will provide students with a specific list of supplies for their team and/or individual classes.
What are the guidelines for textbooks?
· All textbooks must be covered.
· Students assume full responsibility for the care of textbooks issued to them.
· Loss of books due to theft or other circumstances shall not be accepted as an excuse for non-payment. If the book is found and returned, the bookkeeper will issue a refund to the student/parent.
· Failure of students to pay for lost or damaged textbooks from their previous school results in students not being issued textbooks for the current school year. In other words, students who are currently on the “debt list” will not receive books until the debt is cleared with the bookkeeper.
· Students who are on the debt list are not allowed to participate in extracurricular or sports activities.
· Students who do not have textbooks due to a debt may check out a book from the teacher to use in class or take home to complete an assignment on a daily basis.
What things should students NOT bring to school?
Items that should not be at school include laser pointers, cameras, CD players, IPOD’s, PSP, MP3 players, and/or electronic games.
The school shall not accept responsibility for personal electronic devices, personal property of any kind including money (per district policy.)
All bikes and scooters must remain locked in the bike ramp. Students should also bring a lock from home to secure these items within the bike ramp.
Skateboards, in-line skates and skate shoes are not allowed on school grounds.
Failure to comply with these procedures will result in confiscation of the property. The property will only be returned when the parent comes to the school to pick up the confiscated item.
Are cell phones allowed on campus?
· Students may have their cell phone on their person during the day, however the phone must be turned off.
· Cell phones may be only used prior to 8:45 AM or after 4:05 PM.
· If a student needs to use the phone for emergency use only, he/she may use the phone in Main Office during the hours of 8:45 AM to 4:05 PM.
The school is NOT responsible for lost or stolen cell phones (per district policy).
Failure to comply with these procedures will result in confiscation of the property. The property will only be returned when the parent comes to the school to pick up the confiscated item.
Can students use their cell phones to call their parents?
· During the hours of 8:45 AM to 4:00 PM, students cannot use their cell phones to call their parents, as district policy states that the phone must be turned off.
· There is a designated phone line for student use in the Main Office during the hours of 8:45 AM to 4:05 PM.
What are the hall locker guidelines?
All students have the opportunity to use a hall locker and lock. When locks and lockers are issued, there is a charge of $2.00 for the rental fee for the entire school year.
Lockers cannot be shared.
· Since book-bags must be folded and stored in the lockers, it is best to use book-bags that do not have frames or lots of extra padding. The easier it is to fold up the book-bag, the less likely that a student will experience a “locker jam”.
· Students should not share their combinations with friends, etc. When students close the lockers, they should make sure they turn the combination and “tug” on the handle to make sure the door is closed and secured.
Attendance
What are the procedures for student sign-in?
· If a student arrives to school after 9:15 AM, the parent must accompany the child to the Student Affairs Office. The parent will officially sign-in the child on the attendance log and receive a pass to class. School personnel will sign the pass. The pass will be marked “excused” or “unexcused” depending on the nature of the tardy (See Hillsborough County Schools Handbook).
According to district policy, more than two sign-outs in a grading period shall required documentation or a conference with the assistant principal in order for the sign-in to be considered excused.
· Students who have unexcused tardies to homeroom will be subject to the tardy consequence plan.
What are the procedures for student sign-out?
· The student sign-out area is located in the Guidance Office. The parent will officially sign out the child on the sign out log.
· Students may only be released to individuals listed on the emergency cards.
· All adults picking up students will be required to show ID.
· All student sign-outs must occur before 3:45 PM in order to minimize class interruptions during the last period of the day and ensure a smooth whole-school dismissal.
If a student is signing out early, we strongly encourage that the student deliver a note from the parent to the Guidance Office (prior to homeroom). The student will be issued a pass to be released from class at the designated sign-out time. This keeps classroom disruptions to a minimum.
According to district policy, more than four sign-outs in a grading period shall require documentation or a conference with the assistant principal in order for the sign-out to be considered excused.
What are the procedures if a student is absent?
Parents should call the school (671-5121 ext. 400)
Please call in by 10:30 AM daily to report an absence. In other words, if a student is ill for three days, the parent needs to call all three days (prior to 10:30 AM). Please give the following information: 1) Caller’s name and relationship to student, 2) Student’s legal name, 3) Student’s grade, 4) Reason for absence, and 5) Daytime telephone number where the caller can be reached for verification if deemed necessary.
If a student has excessive unexcused and/or excused absences over the course of the school year, the parent will be required to show documentation (doctor’s note, etc.) . A letter will be mailed home on the 5th and 10th unexcused absence. A conference will be scheduled to discuss excessive absences.
All absences are considered unexcused unless the parent calls before 10:30 AM on each day of the absence. Unexcused absences have a negative effect on grades, as it results in a grade of “zero” for tests and or graded work missed. If no test and/or graded work are missed on the day of the unexcused absence, the student will receive a two-percent grade reduction for that day. The reduction is made at the end of the nine-week grading period and is taken from the final nine-week grade average. Remember, students accumulate unexcused absences when parents do NOT call-in the absences and the reason for the absence is not a valid reason.
Please refer to the student handbook for clarification on excused absences.
What are the procedures for getting preplanned absences excused? Are they marked excused?
· According to district policy, a preplanned absence for a personal reason that is acceptable to the school’s administration may be marked “excused”. Approval is contingent upon the reason for absence, the student’s attendance record, the student’s academic record and student’s conduct.
· For these types of absences, parents should contact their child’s Principal for prior approval. These types of absences must be requested and approved at least three days prior to the absence.
· Homework requests when three or more days accumulate maybe pre-arranged through the guidance office. The work will be available for parent pick-up at the close of the next school day.
· Each assistant principal will notify the teachers of the excused pre-planned absence.
Important! Important! Important!
Call 671-5121 ext. 400 every day that your child is absent from school.
